The Triangle Universities Nuclear Laboratory (TUNL) is a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Center of Excellence that focuses on low-energy nuclear physics research. TUNL is a consortium of three major research universities in the North Carolina Research Triangle Area: Duke University, North Carolina State University, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

TUNL operates three accelerator facilities: the High Intensity Gamma-ray Source (HIGS), the Laboratory for Experimental Nuclear Astrophysics (LENA) and the tandem accelerator laboratory. In addition, there are a variety of specialized laboratories used by TUNL research groups for equipment R&D on all three campuses.

Morehead Planetarium Show + UNC Chapel Hill Campus Tour

The Morehead Planetarium and Science Center, which has one of the largest planetariums in the United States, is located on the UNC Chapel Hill campus. Possessing a 68-foot fulldome planetarium, the Morehead actually provided training to U.S. astronauts from the Mercury program to the Apollo-Soyuz program.

Additionally, this tour will include a general tour of the beautiful UNC Chapel Hill campus. After the tour, participants will have the option to enjoy dinner on Franklin Street or attend the Mercury 13 Social if they have pre-registered for the event.
