Managing Director of Membership
National Space Society
Burt Dicht has dedicated his career to advancing STEM education and inspiring the next generation of engineers, scientists, and space professionals. He currently serves as the Space Correspondent for the National Space Society (NSS), and the Managing Director of Membership. Through his work with NSS, he promotes space exploration, student engagement, and opportunities for students and early-career professionals to pursue careers in the space industry.
Before joining NSS, Dicht served as Director of Student and Academic Programs at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), where he developed and led educational initiatives, including TryEngineering Together, the IEEE Summer Institute, and the STEM Portal. These programs connected thousands of students with mentors, educational resources, and real-world engineering applications.
Dicht began his professional career as an aerospace engineer at Northrop, contributing to the design and development of aircraft including the F-5E/F, F-20A, YF-23A, and F/A-18E/F. He also worked on the Space Shuttle program at Rockwell International and interned at NASA's Kennedy Space Center. These experiences provide a foundation for his work helping students understand the opportunities and challenges of engineering careers.
An ASME Fellow and a member of IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu (IEEE-HKN), the IEEE honor society, Dicht remains actively involved in the engineering profession. He currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of The Bridge, IEEE-HKN's flagship magazine.
